EDUCATION
Round Rock ISD
Round Rock has an award winning school district. Students identified as the most at-risk for not graduating are
encouraged to participate in the New Directions—New Horizons Program,
where students learn valuable skills to assist them in life success.
The students can study, visit diverse work environments, and improve
their financial literacy. In addition, students tour corporations,
businesses and college campuses, demonstrating the firm support of the
Round Rock community.
So, how did Round Rock get its name?
In 1851 a small community was formed on the banks of Brushy Creek, near
a large round rock located in the middle of the creek. This round rock
marked a convenient low-water crossing for wagons, horses and cattle. The "round rock" is located near Chisholm Trail Street in the middle of Brushy Creek. The town was first named Brushy Creek then renamed Round Rock in 1854. Please click the image (this image and the one above provided Larry D. Moore) to see a larger view.
